Impoundment

The following animals may be impounded:

If an animal violating Animal Control laws is found upon the premises of any person, the owner or occupant of the premises may confine the animal in a humane manner until the Animal Control officer can be notified to impound the animal. Reasonable effort will be made by the Animal Control officer to contact the owner of impounded animals wearing vaccination tags; however, final responsibility for locating an impounded animal is that of the owner. Owners can resume possession of impounded animals upon payment of impoundment fees and any veterinary bills incurred by the Animal Control officer for the welfare of the animal. Disposition of animals impounded for cruel or inhumane treatment will be determined by the court. Owners of animals impounded for quarantine are not entitled to possession until the animals have been released from quarantine. The City of Benbrook determines the appropriate disposition of animals not reclaimed by the owner after being impounded for five days.
